The Most Exquisite Wine Retreats of the Lartisien Collection

For those who appreciate a nice glass of wine, few things in life compare to the bliss of being able to wander through vineyards. Exploring a place that’s produced the raw product and converted into this delectable elixir. Many hotels and resorts have built their offering and experiences around the beverage. It’s now become the dream destination of those who always find joy in the red, white, and rosé!

From the terroir of the Douro Valley to the UNESCO site of Val d’Orcia, discover the best  wine retreats of the Lartisien Collection!

 1 Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine, Spain

For our first oenophilic retreat, we are taking you to the oldest demarcated wine-growing  region in the world, the Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine. Nestled at the heart of the historic Douro Valley in Spain, surrounded by  over 700 acres of lush vineyard upon which a variety of grapes is grown for the production of  local wine. This includes the ever-popular Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and even more niche crops dedicated to the production of Syrah and Petit Verdot. Abadia Retuerta LeDomaine truly brings you to the very heart of Spanish viniculture!

The property itself is a 12th-century Romanesque Abbey that has been entirely renovated. Being set just outside the village of Sardon de Duero, some 2 hours from Madrid, the setting is not only visually stunning but the atmosphere is laid-back and easy. The Abbey has only 27 rooms and 3 suites -all boasting a mix of medieval and contemporary minimalist aesthetics with vaulted ceiling and period furniture to make it an ideal, intimate retreat. Your focus can really be on two things: cutting off from the world, and wine!

Indeed, the hotel offers a variety of experiences entirely tailored to their specific clientele.  Besides the two dining outlets that are focused on their wine selection, The Wine Cellar and  the Calicata Terroir Bar, Abadia Retuerta also gives you the opportunity to explore their  vineyards in a guided tour. You can even visit the Elaboration room, the Barrel room,  the biodynamic garden, and of course, partake in a number of tasting experiences of the  Abbey’s finest collection.

If, however, you are looking for something a little more… unusual, then our next destination  should be just what you are looking for.

2 Villa La Coste, France

We continue our wine journey at the Villa La Coste in France. This next retreat brings you to the Provencal commune of Le Puy-Sainte-Réparade, a destination where art and wine become one. Indeed, within its 600 acres of terraced vineyards, the hotel stands out as an architectural feat that uses the typical sandy palette of Provence to create an atmosphere that is both rustic and modern.

Made of stone and wood, the Villa is filled with an impressive collection of artworks and  pièces uniques, while outside, the vineyards and gardens boast contemporary sculptures,  specialised galleries, art boutiques, and even hosts public performances by a number of  artists.

However, the plat de resistance has to be what lies at the heart of the estate. Discover Chateau  La Coste, the epicenter of this viticultural destination. The estate is known for growing its red  and wine grapes through bio-agriculture and even obtained the official label of “Agriculture  Biologique” in 2009. This ensures that the vineyards are operated in perfect harmony with  nature. The Chateau offers a large selection that covers red, white, and rosé, that speaks of  the diversity and richness of the terroir, which of course you can relish at the restaurants or  during private tasting workshops.

About Log Pillay

I’ve always been fascinated by the power of stories and storytelling. And stories are made up of people and situations, but also destinations that often become a character of their own. Quirky alleyways with century-old shops, grand hotels that become home to authors and their personages, or even entire cities that leave a mark in history… This magazine is all about telling these unique stories, and taking the readers along for the ride.
