Would You Like To See the Meadowood Napa Valley Join Our Collection?

So we obviously love wine country retreats here at Grand Luxury Hotels. But can you blame us? Usually set in far-flung corners of the world, in forested valleys with scenic hiking trails, they are the stuff of travel dreams with their rustic sophistication and discreet luxury.

The Six Senses Douro Valley, set among the vineyards of the Douro River in northern Portugal, is already part of our collection…

As is the stylish Royal Champagne Hotel and Spa, sitting squarely between Reims and Épernay, with beautiful walks, cycle rides and pretty Champenois villages in every direction…

This time, we’ve got our sights set on California’s wine country with Relais & Chateaux’s Meadowood Napa Valley retreat, set on a private 250-acre estate of lodging outfitted with fireplaces and terraces, a nine-hole golf course, croquet lawns and views of the picturesque landscape whenever you look out of the window.

But where the Meadowood Napa Valley really shines are the subtle details… There is a three Michelin-star restaurant here (one of only five on the West Coast), with a menu that plays off the seasons and what is freshest in the garden . Summer, for example, is all about lobster salads and beef served with avocado mousseline, while winter might see menu items like marigold broths and risotto served with caviar.

The 85 cottages, suites, and lodges are another reason to come here. With a calm decor done in muted tones, wood-burning fireplaces and pretty French doors that open to large private terraces, they make lingering easy. Did we mention the reading chairs, window seats and deep-soaking tub that comes with scented candles and Moulton Brown amenities? If this is not the perfect rustic escape, we don’t know what is…

Meadowood Napa Valley

Then, of course, it would not be a wine country enclave without a spa where you can check-in for a massage or facial. And the one at the Meadowood hotel, with its rustic-chic vibe and lingering scent of redwood, delivers with aplomb.
