Are you ready for the biggest party of the planet? That’s right, the Rio Carnival 2019 is happening now and it’s the right time to hit Rio de Janeiro. Every year around 1 million people from across the globe head to the largest carnival which keeps surprising both tourists and locals.

Where to go?

The Sambadromo’s Parade

The biggest parade for the Rio Carnival takes place at the Sambadromo between the 1st to the 9th March and draws huge crowds since years. Locals and tourists are always eager to watch the show that features Samba, music, stunning colorful costumes, huge floats and so much more.

Each year, participating Samba schools go out of their way to offer a mesmerizing show and compete against each other to win the coveted Championship title or be among the 12 best samba schools of Rio. Months of preparations, sacrifices and investment go into each performance to stand out from rival schools. Each Samba school comes up with a unique theme, choreography, samba song and a gigantic float that stands out. Dancers, musicians, choreographers, designers, engineers, architects and more come together to successfully pull that off and each participating school has 8 minutes to wow the audience and the jury (which consists of 40 judges).

The Blocos

Street parties can’t rival with the Sambadromo’s grand parade but if you want to experience the Carnival in its true authenticity, you need to head to the streets to see the Blocos. Blocos are groups of people who organize street parties in Rio during the carnival. They usually parade and dance in specific streets to the sound of live Samba music. The best street parties take place in Copacabana, Leblon and Ipanema.

The Dolce Carnevale at the Belmond Copacabana Palace

Each year the Belmond Copacabana Palace hosts its world-famous ball during the Carnival and it’s the most extravagant event of the year. Far from the parades, this masquerade ball recreates the magic and elegance of the Italian traditional masquerades with a touch of Brazilian authenticity. This is where celebrities, socialites and the elite party in style, away from the crowds.

This year’s Dolce Carnevale is a tribute to Italy’s glamour and guests will show up in the most stunning designer outfits in line with the theme. The most stylish party in Rio has it all; live music, samba dance, Italian delicacies and drinks in line with the theme. The Belmond Copacabana Palace keeps outdoing herself for the annual ball.
