Louis Vuitton celebrated the opening of its brand new store on Place Vendôme this Wednesday, just a stone’s throw from 4, rue Neuve-des-Capucines, where the trunk-maker opened his very first store.

Spread over two historic Parisian townhouses – one facing Place Vendôme, the other along Rue Faubourg St Honoré – the flagship’s design is signed by prestigious architect Peter Marino and returns the splendor to these historic buildings after a rather messy piece of renovation work in the 80’s. The results of his efforts, are sublime.

On the outside, stone facades by Jules Hardouin Mansart, architect of the Château de Versailles, were meticulously brought back to life using time honored techniques of French craftsmanship, and on the inside, the beauty of natural light dances across intricate pieces glass work, light stone and herringbone parquet floors. It’s a breathtaking design, deserving of what is being displayed and created within.

Unique pieces from Maison Louis Vuitton Vendôme including a travel case from 1917, and a “Malle Bibliothèque” made famous by Ernest Hemingway, are exposed alongside 33 unique artworks by artist’s such as Laurent Grasso, Stephen Sprouse, Yan Pei Ming and Serge Alain Nitegeka, a diverse set of pieces personally curated by Peter Marino.
