5 Secluded Beachfront Resorts That Will Have You Feeling Alone in the World

Like most things in life, not all beachfront resorts are created equal.

If you’re busy planning your vacation and spending long nights on the net looking for the perfect resort, one thing becomes obvious: There’s just too many to choose from.

That might sound like a good thing but it also makes it much easier for you to pick the wrong one and regret your decision the minute you get there.

After all there’s nothing worse than arriving at a destination you thought was a tropical paradise and finding yourself on a crowded beach with stampeding kids and people who can’t keep it below 90 decibels.

So save yourself some trouble and choose the right hotel from the start. If you’re only interested in the best and don’t want to compromise on seclusion, quality service, easy beach access and privacy, the following beachfront resorts come with our highest recommendations.

Six Senses Ninh Van Bay – Vietnam

Six Senses Ninh Van Bay - Secluded Beachfront resorts

Rustic Charm aplenty

You’ll find the Six Senses Ninh Van Bay on a private peninsula cut off from the mainland. But, no need for a rescue, because if this is what being stranded is like, you can leave us here till kingdom come.

What you’ll like:
  • The gorgeous villas. They’re “rustic chic” done right and 100% eco -friendly.

  • Perched on the tip of a private peninsula and only accessible via water. Seclusion is guaranteed.

  • The Six Senses “Integrated Wellness Program”. Odd at first but useful long after you’ve left.

The Six Senses have a knack for finding those one-of-a-kind spots to build their hotels, and the Ninh Van Bay is among the most secluded and idyllic in their portfolio.

Tucked away on a private bay on Vietnam’s East Coast and isolated from the mainland by rolling hills and jungle, the Six Senses Ninh Van Bay is part of a hallowed group of resorts. The one’s that are really cut off from the rest of the world.

To get here, it’s a 20-minute zip across the waters of the South China Sea by speedboat from the coastal city of Nha Trang and as soon as you make landfall at the beachfront resort, it’s relaxation galore

The resort’s eco-friendly lodges are world’s onto themselves and where most of the Ninh Van’s guests spend the bulk of their time. If you’re looking to mingle, that’s bad news, but if you only want to be interrupted by your butler bearing a bottle of Taittinger Champagne, you won’t find a much better place to indulge.

Cotton House – Mustique – Carribean

Cotton House - Beachfront Resort

Mustique is a private island in the Caribbean. But it’s more than that. What it is, is a playground for the super-rich who’ve decided to set up their villas there. With only 500 or so residents spread out over a paradisiacal island of approximately 1,400 acres, this is the place to go if you’re after seclusion, freedom, safety, and a hefty dose of glam.

 Why you’ll like it:

  • The Cotton House is the epicenter of social life on the island. Since said island is Mustique, get ready for a Gatsby-esque time.

  • If you don’t want to mingle, that’s perfectly fine. With acres of space at your disposal, you’re bound to find a quiet stretch of beach to enjoy in peace and complete safety.

  • Staying here is one of the most decadent and exclusive experiences in the world.

You’d be lucky to buy a front porch in Kensington for £45,000 nowadays, but back in the 60’s, that was about the right amount for a desert island in the Carribean.

So, when Lord Glenconner and Colin Tennant took a trip to the Carribean and discovered the uninhabited island of Mustique available for that bargain price, they cashed in.

Initially intended as a cotton plantation, Glenconner and Tennant eventually clued onto what they had on their hands and transformed the island into one of the most exclusive island hideaways in the world.

Nowadays, Mustique is run by a private company, and the Cotton House – once a former sugar mill plantation – is the island’s oldest building and its only commercial hotel. If you haven’t gotten round to buying your villa yet, this colonial gem is a great alternative.

Wouldn’t you want to be there?

Because, whether you’re off on a romantic getaway or traveling with family, the Cotton House is easily the best place to do both for, and for the same reason. Privacy.

Mustique is in essence, a world of its own, and whether you choose to explore the acres of space with your family or hand in hand with your partner, you’re not likely to meet a soul unless you want to.

 Maia – Seychelles

 MaiA Seychelles - Beachfront Resorts

The first thing you’ll want to do when you step into one of the villas at the Maia Seychelles is to ask your friendly personal butler to unpack your bags, fix you a cocktail, and more importantly, throw away the key.

 What you’ll like
  • The Villas are veritable worlds onto themselves and among the best in the business.

  • The views. Waking up to the Indian Ocean is a bucket list experience.

  • You can choose to dine whenever, and wherever you want in the resort

This beachfront resort in the Indian Ocean makes “staying in” the best thing to do on your holidays, thanks to stylish villas with sweeping views of the Indian Ocean, and service which guesses what you want before you know it yourself. The prospect of leaving isn’t something you want to face.

The Maia is one of the most exclusive resorts in the Seychelles. Its location on a hillside overlooking the Anse Louis beach is prime real estate indeed.

Sweeping views of the Indian Ocean and cliffs can be glimpsed from every section of the resort, but since people prefer to soak it in from their outdoor bathtubs or plunge pools, you’re not likely to see a soul in the communal areas.

Your home in paradise

Excellent personal butlers available 24 hours a day and ready to cater to your every whim don’t encourage the social aspect, nor does the possibility of tasting the excellent fusion cuisine of the hotel’s restaurant whenever and wherever – yes, even on the beach – you want.

Everyone tends to keep to themselves, and if you’re after seclusion and privacy, you’re fine with that. Still, if you can bare the thought of leaving your room, this beachfront resort offers one of the best spa experiences in the Seychelles, and Anse Louis Beach – directly accessible from the Maia Signature Villas – is almost always deserted and a perfect place to catch the sunset.

Six Senses Zighy Bay – Oman

Six Senses Zighy Bay - Beachfront Resorts

Tucked away on the tip of Oman’s Musandam Peninsula, shielded by the Hajar mountain range and the waters of the Gulf, the Six Senses Zighy Bay is the secluded desert beach resort you never knew you needed. And, it lets you paraglide into the resort for your check-in, so what’s not to love?

 What you’ll like
  • The laid back vibe and rustic design create another type of luxury. And we love it.

  • The spa and wellness services. If you want, everything is in place to turn your stay into a fitness boot camp.

  • Where else can you paraglide into a check-in process?

It isn’t easy reaching the Six Senses Zighy Bay. You’re looking at a six-hour drive from the airport, and you’ll have to switch to a 4×4 to navigate the mountain pass which shields the resort.

Alternatively, if you’ve got a penchant for drama, you can always paraglide in from the hills or arrive, James Bond style, in a high powered speed boat. It’s not your standard airport transfer and cocktail greeting, but it’s 100% worth it because you’ve never – and we stress, never – experienced anything quite like the Six Senses Zighy Bay.

Six Senses Zighy Bay- Another side of luxury

The Six Senses Zighy Bay is a beachfront resort out in the tip of the Musandam Peninsula. It’s as removed from your daily life as you can imagine, with nearby settlements boasting a higher goat population than people and since it’s off the radar for most travelers, a trip there earns you bragging rights when you get back to the office.

Rough stone walls, thatched roofs, and rattan blend with private plunge pools, well stocked personal wine cellars and outdoor showers. It’s rustic à la Six Senses, and one of the best places to escape to for some R&R with that special someone.

Cheval Blanc Randheli – Maldives

Cheval Blanc Randheli -

The Maldives is the holy grail of travel in the tropics. Just drop the name in your office rec-room for instant oohs and aahs. For those who consider the atoll nation their playground, mention the Cheval Blanc Randheli for the same effect.

  What you’ll like
  • Sleek and original hotel design out in the tropics.

  • a limited number of rooms but plenty of activities and dining options to enjoy. Plenty of staff members too, all of them delivering exceptional service.

  • Glamorous and laid back, it’s the ultimate decadent experience.

The Cheval Blanc Randheli is a thing of perfection. The very concept, i.e., – a designer hotel by Jean-Michel Gathy set in one of the most pristine atolls in the Maldives- is the stuff of fantasy, and it delivers on the hype with aplomb.

To get there, you’re looking at a 40-minute seaplane ride from Mahé airport to the Noonu Atoll.

With glass-like transparency and an average temperature of 28°, calling the atolls’ waters a paradise for divers is an understatement. And, since the majority of its islets are deserted, it easily lends itself to any Robinson Crusoe fantasies you might have. Provided they play out in a gorgeous designer hotel, of course.

Cheval Blanc Randheli – Villa

Designer Jean-Michel Gathy based the hotel on his idea of the perfect beach holiday, and the simple act of walking barefoot on a beach before jumping on a boat to go fishing, a straightforward MO which translates into one of the most inspiring hotel designs we’ve seen.

An extension of the lush islets and crystalline waters of the Maldives, the Cheval Blanc Randheli was meant to be at one with its surroundings. And, considering how breathtaking those surroundings are, it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most talked about beachfront resorts out there.

But once you’re here, all of that buzz and glam are left at the door. Each of the Cheval Blanc Randheli’s villas is designed around privacy, and the serene atmosphere of the Maldives and the resort means that it’s very easy to settle into your little slice of paradise and forget about the rest of the world.
