The Peninsula Hong Kong: Salon De Ning


From adventuring in wind-swept deserts, flying Zeppelins and dancing the Charleston, Madame Ning’s done it all, and the art deco boudoir of the Salon De Ning does a great job of showcasing every aspect of her well lived fictional life. Using the colorful character as an excuse for unabashed creativity, designer David Tang has transformed the basement of the Peninsula Hong Kong into one of the most playful, yet classy watering holes in a city already not shy of exuberant designs. When you’re there, make it a point to try the Ning Sling, a lychee and mint based cocktail as playful and colorful as its namesake, and if you do see Madame Ning, say hi for us.

Many moaned at the delays of the Savoy’s renovation, and when the hotel was finally unveiled to guests after three long years, the general consensus was that it was well worth the wait, due in no small part, to the stunning Beaufort Bar.

The gold leaf clad interiors give an air of exclusivity and sleekness that other up market watering holes struggle to achieve. And, it may even be giving the Savoy’s very own American Bar a run for its money.

The Beaufort seems to be a magnet for corporate types and well to do young couples and the bar’s attentive and efficient service is designed to keep them in its midst for hours on end… and the drinks are lip smacking good too.

Make the most of the large Champagne selection by trying out some of their well made Champagne cocktails, the most impressive of which is The Impressionist, a rose cordial and violet liqueur masterpiece which comes with a bouquet of flowers designed to evoke the scent of a classic English garden.
